Wings of Starlight brings back Clarion and Milori in the best way
Please be informed… you will cry. I did it. And worst thing ever, I knew it was going to end that way and yet I still cried. But after all, how couldn’t I? Clarion and Milori’s story has captured everyone’s heart when Tinkerbell came out. The broken wings, the lovers who couldn’t be together and two separated kingdoms has glued themselves in our mind for so long that writing this book was mandatory. They could not have run away from it, and I’m glad they did it.
WHAT’S THE STORY OF WINGS OF STARLIGHT?
Wings of Starlight it’s a prequel to the already known Tinkerbell movies. Queen Clarion, here princess in training, is still a young fairy guided by the previous ruler of Pixie Hollow. Milori, the Warden of Winter, is protecting all the kingdoms from the Nightmares, unseen creatures who have for so long corrupted Pixie Hollow. Their kingdom as separated and all Clarion has known was to fear the Winter fairies who previously attacked Pixie Hollow and their Queen for revenge. But one day, when the Nightmares attack the fairies and no one seems to be able to stop them (or helping their victims), Clarion decides to adventure into the Winter Real to find a solution. On her side is Milori, the Warden and his owl Noctua. But despite being known as a dangerous land, the Winter Real is nothing like Clarion has ever imagined it could be. That of course, only after she met the Nightmares. Will Clarion be able to save her land? And how did Milori lose his wings?

MY VERDICT (Might contain minor spoilers)
I have loved loved loved loved (∞) this book. Clarion was not the Queen we have met in the movies. But after all, she was still growing and learning, it would only make sense for her to be still young and reckless. There were moment were it might have been better to speak with an “adult” and ask for their help but overall, truly, would that have even work? Despite putting herself in danger, I don’t think many would have been ready to risk their wings and trust the winter fairies. Not after what they thought they knew about them. And especially not the Queen.
The story has absolutely being a way to know more about Clarion as a young and dreamy fairy to the Queen who has done her best to protect her people, even if they were forced to stay away from each others. I do feel, however, that the ending felt somewhat “empty”. Clarion has ruled how no one should ever cross the bridge, yet it seems that no one has even ever spoken to the Winter fairies after the finale. In a way, while they ended up helping each others and being “united” as Milori wanted, they still separated the two kingdom. It felt as if Clarion backtracked on her promise, at least for me. And while I know the movie ending has shown their kingdom united again, knowing it took quite a while didn’t really made me as excited as I thought I could be.
It did make me cry though. It was midnight and I was bawling my eyes out for the ending. I loved them and their story and if you do like Tinkerbell, then I would absolutely advice you to read this book. If you manage to find it. I fear it was already sold out when I looked for it and it magically appeared a few days later to the point I sent my mum rushing to the store before it wouldn’t be available anymore. Again.
Are there any new characters?
Of course. Though I don’t remember Petra and Artemis in the movie at all. Where did they go after working for Clarion? They were some new addition to the story but they are also fairies so I would suspect they would be alive for much longer (and while Tink is joining Pixie Hollow). So what happened to them? Because now I want to know. Please tell me!
If you haven’t done it already, do rush and read it.
Happy reading,
Marianna
