Nightbane: The Much-Awaited Sequel of Lightlark is OUT NOW
Alex Aster is back with another of her success. Like Lightlark, Nightbane has left us with many questions and a great finale.
Isla Crown has secured the love of two powerful rulers and broken the curses that plagued the six realms for centuries, but few know the true origins of her powers. Now, in the wake of a crushing betrayal, Isla finds herself hungry for distraction, preferring to frequent Lightlark’s seductive haunts instead of embracing her duties as the newly crowned leader of two separate realms. Worse, her fellow rulers haven’t ceded victory quietly, and there are others in Isla’s midst who don’t believe her ascent to power was earned. As certain death races toward Lightlark and secrets from the past begin to unravel, Isla must weigh her responsibility to her people against the whims of the most dangerous traitor of all: her heart.
WHAT HAPPENED IN LIGHTLARK (some spoilers if you haven’t read the book)
Isla Crown has won the Centennial, but at what cost? Her friend Celeste turned out to be a much more dangerous adversary; the ruler whom she thought wanted to help her win the Centennial was the one who created all the curses. Grim, the one she loved, has instead proven to have broken her trust and taken all her memories away. And she, who believed to have no powers, has discovered instead to have been long able to use her abilities. But those were also hidden from her by her birth. There was only one person who never betrayed her: Oro, the ruler of Lightlark. And also the one she discovered to love during the Centennia
THE EVENTS IN NIGHTBANE (careful to possible spoilers)
- Isla is finally recovering her memories, not without paying a price. Her powers are blooming, both as a Nightshade and as a Wildling. But to regain her memories, she must overcome the block Grimshaw put on them. And to do that, she needs to make her Nightshade abilities even more powerful.
- Lightlark is under a new attack, this time coming from beasts that appear to be invincible. Only a blade made of a special stone seemed to have the ability to hurt them. And yet, that same stone is much more difficult to find.
- Alex Aster reveals in much more detail the past between Isla and Grim (and WHAT DETAILS!). The finale has undoubtedly left us with even more questions. What will happen to Isla? And more importantly, when is the next book coming out
MY THOUGHTS
After reading Lightlark, I had so many questions. Some of them included how Alex Aster was planning to save Grimshaw and Isla’s relationship after he so cunningly took all of her memories away. I didn’t think there was much he could do to save himself. On the contrary, I thought they did not have much of a past. But they totally had one, and more importantly, it was not Grimshaw who decided to take her memories away.
Isla’s memories about her life with Grim were hiding many more details. Their wedding, for example, but also the pain she carried before the Centennial and that caused her to try and lose her memory. But the book has still left us with so many questions. Grim’s decision to bring the Wildlings to his reign and take their memories away is a reminder of what happened in the first book. Something that I feel Isla will need to explore, both as a Ruler, and as a Wildling. How will she connect back to her people, if they have lost their memories?
IS THERE GOING TO BE A SEQUEL?
Unfortunately, Alex Aster has yet to reveal when or if there will be any sequel to her book. I am sure there will be, it’s impossible she will leave the story to end as it currently is. Even so there are no news about the next book, which means that if you are someone who likes to read every sequel immediately (or at least know a possible timeline) you will be disappointed by knowing there are no info about it. Hopefully the book will be out soon in 2024 and we won’t need to wait too much before discovering what will happen in Isla’s life.
Now have you read Lightlark and Nightbane? And what were your thoughts about it?
Nightbane is available online and in every store. But you can follow Alex for every update about her books and news about Lightlark’s movies. Do I want to audition for that? Totally. I am so obsessed I hope to have a chance.
Happy Reading!
