Getting lost in Raiders of the Lost Heart

Jo Segura is the author behind the book Raiders of the Lost Heart. And hear me out, you totally should read it. If you love Lara Croft and Relic Hunters, I’m sure you will love this book. The book follows a group of archaeologists teaming up to discover a secret Aztec expedition. And the adventurous Socorro “Corrie” Mejía will surely make you fall in love with this story.

THE PLOT

Dr. Socorro “Corrie” Mejía biggest dream is – and always has – to lead an expedition in the Mexican jungle in order to discover the remains of her ancestor, Chimalli, an ancient warrior from the Aztec empire. Despite all of her work, she never managed to realise this dream of hers. Until one day Corrie gets an invitation for an all expenses dig to Chimalli’s tomb. It seems so perfect. And too good to be true, right?

As the biggest Chimalli’s expert, Corrie is convinced she will be the one leading the expedition. Until of course she finds out that her biggest – and unfortunately handsome – nemesis is the actual leader. Ex university colleagues, Ford Matthews has always managed to get everything she wanted. And with his life in shambles, Ford surely didn’t want to have Corrie digging around – literally – and reminding him of his past.

But working together is all they can do to achieve their wishes. That and finding out who is the thief lurking around their campsite, someone who seems to be ready to destroy all they worked for. With artifact smugglers, Mexican authorities, past loves, secrets and lies this story can only end in two way: with the biggest discover of the time, or with an explosive exit.

MY THOUGHTS on RAIDERS OF THE LOST HEART

I loved Raiders of the Lost Heart. Literally. Don’t think I spent more than a day reading the pages of this amazing story. And with a sequel coming out next year, it’s only time before I will buy the next Jo Segura’s novel ready to devour it.

I woke up wanting to read something that would remind me of Lara Croft. And as a big Lara’s fan since I was a child, ready to read, watch and play with everything I could put my hands on, deciding to open this book was an easy choice. Corrie did not disappoint. And how could she, after all? This book was everything that I wanted and I was absolutely captured by every single work and pages of this story. I got lost in the narrative – literally considering that I have no sense of direction – but the story flew so easily that there was not a single moment of boredom.

I had a couple of heart attack, I had to say. And I also have to admit that I wanted to just head to head the characters every one upon a time because why are they fighting?! Why?! I was just happy whenever things solve themselves. And the villain? Can I say that I was not see that coming? I thought it was better not to trust completely, but spoiler alert I didn’t think the land didn’t even belong to him. And sincerely speaking, with all the money that were spent, you would imagine him to waiste way less time than what he did.

WHY SHOULD YOU BUY IT

  • If you like adventurous female characters.
  • Should you enjoy the likes of the Mummy, Lara Croft, Relic Hunters and wished there were more story like them.
  • If you like enemies to lover. Well, all sincerity, I would call them frenemies because they had more incomprehension than actual hate.
  • If you want to read a romance than is not always in town, with babies or in a fantasy world.

Let me know what you think of it! And if you are ready for another adventure… Maybe Tangled Up in You, inspired by Rapunzel, will be the perfect choice.
